06 Dec Stronger Together
What an incredible and uplifting experience with thousands of Salvos coming together, as one national Army at our recent Still Other gathering – all joining in prayer, song and celebration of the new Australia Territory.
Over the six days, there were many highlights and it was especially joyful to connect with so many friends from across the nation. Of course, being presented with the Australian territorial flag from the General on Friday evening will be an experience that I will always be grateful for. If you weren’t able to attend, I hope you enjoy this short video with the General’s proclamation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm34FEukqeQ
Tracey and I also announced four new initiatives that will help us to realise our national vision. You can read about them at Others on-line and more details will be communicated in the new year. https://others.org.au/news/2018/11/30/we-are-officially-one/
Still Others was clearly the culmination of our journey to unite the Australia Eastern and Australia Southern territories, but it also represents a significant milestone in our organisation’s 137 year history. Being united, will further strengthen our movement and enable us to have a greater missional impact on the people and communities that we serve.
Of course we know that we have a road ahead to fully realise all of the benefits of a single territory, but we get inspiration and solace knowing that God is working through us and the Army. The continued service from our officers, soldiers, employees and volunteers despite the challenges and changing environment, is testament to the strengths of all Salvos and their dedication to our mission.
I would like to wish everyone blessings for the Christmas season. It’s a time that many Salvos continue to work giving love and support to people experiencing hardship and helping them to share the wonder of Jesus’ love. Thank you for your service and best wishes for you and your friends and family. We look forward to the ‘immeasurably more than we can imagine” that God plans to do in the coming year and beyond. (Ephesians 3:20,21)
