Meet Lt Colonel Lisa Venables, National Head of Centre for Restoration

What is the Centre for Restoration?

The Centre for Restoration provides support for any person who has been the victim of abuse whilst in Salvation Army care. We take a person-centred approach and our team provides support and guidance through the Complaints Committee process. We’re also part of the National Redress Scheme.

How has your training and experience helped equip you for the work you are doing today?

While I haven’t worked in this specific area in in the past, I am trained in counselling and pastoral care and have significant experience in those areas.

I have also been a Salvation Army officer for 32 years and through a variety of roles I have developed skills and competencies that help make me a good fit for heading up the Army’s Centre for Restoration work today.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Friendly, open and reflective.

What do you like doing for fun?

Shopping, catching up with friends and family, reading, watching movies and my favourite hobby is planning holidays.

What is your prayer for The Salvation Army at this time?

That we would continue to be a movement that loves people deeply and that love will be at the centre of all our programs, practices, policies and interactions with people.
