“Your teacher will be right there, local and on the job, urging you on whenever you wander left or right: “This is the right road. Walk down this road.” (Isaiah 30:22 MSG)

As Tracey and I prepare to embark on a tour of our mission expressions throughout every corner of Australia, I take this opportunity to pause and reflect on how far we have come on this journey to the ‘new’. I never thought a journey would make me feel so humbled before the Lord; so inspired to continue a journey to see the greater things yet to come. I am amazed at how many Salvos have walked down a road to a new vision, mission and operation with us, knowing it is the right road as God is with us.

This week I wrote to all Officers of The Salvation Army in Australia expressing our prayers and blessings as they go into this period of celebration and embrace of our new national vision. I encouraged them to view the line in our vision statement of live, love and fight, not just as a slogan of our heritage and purpose, but as a sign of intentional living; to embrace this moment with joy and happiness before our Lord and Saviour.

This coming Sunday, we start the ‘Vision Booster’ campaign across all expressions of our Army. As always, I will be praying for you. I will be praying that as we collectively go deeper, God uses His vision to unite our movement in desire and intent. I will be praying for our Corps and Social Centres to be filled with a spirit that seeks to transform lives afresh with a love so deep, that those they walk alongside may also be transformed. I will be praying for the love of Jesus to radiate from our beings and create a vibrancy of service. I will be praying in anticipation that there will be an abundance of new followers of Christ at our mission expressions over this time and that they choose to make the best decision of their lives to be in relationship with Him.

Tracey and I both anticipate with joy the adventure of visiting Corps and social programs right across Australia over this ‘Vision Booster’ period. National Commitment and Covenant Renewal Sunday on 18 March will be a wonderful culmination to this time of focus and it will be a significant moment itself. Not only do we have the opportunity to renew our covenant to God, publicly committing ourselves to believing this is God’s vision for His Army, but also to celebrate the opportunity our movement has at this moment to introduce others to follow Jesus.

Over the next six weeks, this blog will turn into a travel diary of sorts. It will chart our tour of all of the places we visit, Salvos we encounter and lives we are seeing transformed before our eyes. It will be a great pleasure to bring a snapshot of our Army to you each week.

With this God-inspired framework for intentional living here in front of us, may His vision clearly indicate to us all how we should live, love and fight joyfully and willingly so that we can better expand the Kingdom for His glory.
